Tomás hails from Brooklyn, New York. He received his B.A. from Cornell University with a major in Biology and a concentration in Neuroscience. He went on to earn a Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine from the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. Under the mentorship of Dr. Kevin Tracey, he used noninvasive vagus nerve stimulation of the liver to treat obesity and studied how individual vagus nerve sensory neurons represent cytokines. In the Chiu Lab, Tomás is researching the role of enterochromaffin cells in mediating visceral pain and regulating the host immune response. In his free time, he enjoys basketball, gaming, and expanding his vinyl collection.
