Alyssa was born and raised in Boston, MA. For undergraduate, she attended UNC Chapel Hill where she received a BS in neuroscience and BSPH in nutrition science. Here, she worked with Dr. Ian Carroll to investigate microbiota-directed nutritional supplements and their effects on the metabolic adaptations that occur during severe acute malnutrition. Alyssa is currently a PhD student at the Program in Neuroscience at Harvard Medical School and is co-mentored by Beth Stevens and Isaac Chiu. She is interested in understanding the neuro-immune mechanisms underlying post-infectious neurological sequelae that occur following bacterial infections. Outside of the lab, Alyssa enjoys running, traveling, pilates, and being outdoors!
