What we do
We are investigating the role of the nervous system in mediating inflammation and host defense. Pain is mediated by peripheral sensory neurons called nociceptors Our laboratory combines immunology, neurobiology, and microbiology to investigate how bacteria interact with nociceptors to produce pain, and how these neurons modulate the immune response during inflammation. We are also interested in how resident bacteria of the skin and the gut impact pain sensitivity.
Our Community
Our laboratory is part of a vibrant scientific community at Harvard Medical School within the Department of Immunology, Department of Microbiology. and Department of Neurobiology. We actively participate in several graduate student programs, including the PhD programs in BBS, Neuroscience, and Immunology.
